Style It Your Way: A Guide to Heat-Friendly Wigs
Wearing different wigs allows us to switch up our look with ease, but did you know some styles can be curled, straightened, and restyled just like natural hair? Heat-friendly wigs open up endless possibilities, giving you multiple looks from a single wig.
Unlike standard synthetic wigs, heat-friendly styles offer incredible versatility. You can add waves one day and go sleek the next. But just like natural hair, they need to be treated with care, improper styling can cause damage to the fibres.
We’ve put together a simple guide, along with some top tips, to help you style your heat-friendly wig with confidence.
Prepping Your Wig: The Essential First Step
Before you style your heat-friendly wig, a little preparation goes a long way.
-
Secure it on a wig block head
If you plan to style your wig regularly, a wig block is a must-have. Made of canvas or Styrofoam, it allows you to secure your wig in place and style it from every angle. -
Gently brush your wig
Use a wide-tooth comb or a wire wig brush — never your personal hairbrush. Detangle carefully from ends to roots. For curly styles, use lifting strokes or your fingers; for straight wigs, opt for smooth, even strokes. -
Always style your wig when dry
Styling a wet wig can stretch and damage the fibres. Wait until it’s fully dry for the best and safest results.
Turn Up the Curl: Styling with Body and Volume
Whether you're after soft waves or bouncy curls, here are the safest ways to curl your heat-friendly wig:
-
CoolFlow Dual Styler
Specifically designed for heat-friendly synthetics, this tool combines heat with a built-in cooling fan to set curls quickly and safely. Section the hair and curl just as you would with a regular iron. -
Hot Rollers
A great option for voluminous curls. Roll 2” sections from ends upward, let them cool fully before removing, and enjoy long-lasting body. -
Steam Styling
Suitable for both heat-friendly and standard synthetic wigs. Wrap 1–2” sections around a foam roller or cool iron barrel, steam gently for 5 seconds, then let dry before removing. -
Curling Iron
Use with caution!! Stick to your wig’s recommended temperature (usually below 180°C). Apply a heat-protectant spray, use low heat, and increase slowly only if needed.
Smooth & Sleek: Straightening Heat-Friendly Wigs
For that smooth, sleek finish, try one of these heat-safe techniques:
-
CoolFlow Dual Styler
Just as effective for straightening as it is for curling. Section the hair and straighten gently, using the cooling fan to lock in the style and protect the fibres. -
Blow Dryer
For a voluminous blowout, mist dry hair lightly with water. Use a wide-tooth comb or brush from roots to ends while blow drying on a low setting -
Steam
Steam styling is ideal for a gentle, damage-free finish. Pull each section straight with a comb, and slowly pass a handheld steamer over the hair, keeping distance from the fibres -
Flat Iron
Start on the lowest heat setting, working in 2” sections. Mist lightly with water before straightening. Increase heat gradually if needed, and let the wig cool completely before brushing.
