When Becky walked through our doors for her Hairware HQ visit, we could instantly tell she had a story worth sharing - one of rediscovery, resilience, and confidence.
Like many women, Becky’s hair journey started with her love for beach-blonde tones. Years of colouring, bleaching, and styling eventually took their toll, leaving her hair thin and fragile. Then, menopause hit - and with it, an unexpected challenge.
“I was given testosterone to help with menopause symptoms,” Becky explained, “but it triggered male pattern baldness. I didn’t have cancer or alopecia, so I felt like I didn’t deserve to wear wigs.”
That feeling of “not deserving” is something we hear far too often. But hair loss, no matter the cause, impacts confidence and self-image deeply. And every woman deserves to feel like herself again.
Finding Confidence to Try Wigs
For nearly a year, Becky followed two wig influencers on Facebook, quietly watching their transformations and growing more curious about the idea of wigs herself. After talking it through with her husband and kids, she finally decided to take the plunge.
Her first wig? Selfie Mode by Raquel Welch.
“I had no idea what I was doing,” Becky laughed. “I felt embarrassed and wore it up all the time.”
But then, six months later, something changed. At her birthday celebration, she received a flood of compliments on her hair. When she revealed it was a wig, everyone was stunned, they couldn’t believe it wasn’t her real hair!
“I’d been so worried people would think I was vain,” she said. “But instead, they told me how amazing and natural it looked.”
That moment was the turning point.
A Newfound Confidence (and a Splash of Colour)
Becky’s journey didn’t just stop at finding a realistic look, it bloomed into self-expression. With encouragement from her new-found friend Meg from Embrace Wigs, she began exploring styles and colours she never would have considered before.
“Meg suggested pink - completely out of my comfort zone,” Becky said. “But it became one of my favourites.”
From moments like this, wigs became more than a cover-up. They became a confidence booster and a creative outlet.
“It’s not just wigs that gave me confidence, it was Instagram. On 28th March, I shared 14 reasons why I wear wigs, and every single one came back to confidence. My kids even said, ‘Can’t believe that’s you, Mum!’ That was huge for me.”
Becky’s Go-To Styles
While Becky loves experimenting, she has her absolute favourites:
💗 Nyx in Watermelon R: her go-to bold shade.
🤍 Simmer in Shaded Biscuit by Raquel Welch: the first wig that made her feel truly confident.
🤎 Nashville by Henry Margu: which she simply describes as “amazing.”
Becky’s Advice for New Wig Wearers
“Just do it. You always think people are looking - they’re not. The only reason you need a wig is your own. If you want to wear one, do it!”
She also shared a few golden rules from her early days:
- Give your brain time to adjust.
- The first time you see yourself in a wig, it’ll feel strange, that’s totally normal.
- Never judge it straight away.
- Wear it for a day before deciding if it’s for you.
- Find your style rhythm.
- Some wigs have more volume or length than you’re used to, but it soon becomes second nature.
Becky's Day at Hairware HQ
Becky described her visit as the “highlight of her week.”
“Getting to know the people behind the brand was my favourite part. It’s all about the relationship.”
Hearing her words reminded us exactly why we do what we do, to help women like Becky feel empowered, seen, and unapologetically themselves.
